24 lifts covering 12 resorts in the
French & Swiss Alps

Introductions out of the way, I’ll move on to what you want to hear about, the Chatel ‘Mountain style’ event which went off in a big way this past weekend. The course was (and is, for those brave enough to take it on after the event) looking fantastic, huge drops, big doubles, step ups, step downs and rocks and drops as far as the eye could see, this was clearly going to be an event not to miss from the outset. |

Finals day, and Chatel is buzzing, red bull tent, big screen course view, DJ pumping out tunes to packed out restaurant terraces and riders turned rock climbers who had perched themselves on rocky outcrops to get the best possible view. Not only was the course buzzing, but the trails are full of riders taking inspiration and playing on the flowing jump tracks of Chatel (think Whistler euro-style those who haven’t been here before). |

First runs come up and I walk up course only to see a huge back flip over the bottom step down followed by a super extended superman seat grab over the last double....things have definitely stepped up since qualifying. Rider after rider come down, big things standing out (other than flipping a 40 or 50 foot step down) and Bearcloths 360 off the north shore drop and Andrew Lacondeguy's pinned racer style and massive whips on his full blown dh bike. |
If I’m
honest, this is where I wish I drove over as the lifts closed just
before the
last 7 or 8 riders came down, so I had to head back (still missing the
last
lift up to Avoriaz!).
The last sight of the day
though was turning back whilst
sitting half way up a chairlift to see a rider flipping the last double
(a good
50 or 60ft) amazing stuff.
I’ll leave you with this http://www.pinkbike.com/news/Chatel-Mountain-Style-2011-Cam-Zink-wins.html so you can see the course and the results for yourself. Either way Chatel has proven itself as a worthy bike park and is well worth a visit.
